Announcing the All-New Bulletin App and Widget

We’re very excited to announce that we’ve just released an experimental app that enables you to create and collaborate on Bulletins of text and images for use on your digital signage.

Bulletin App

Bulletins you create are stored on your Google Drive in a Bulletins folder, which means that they are only accessible by you, unless you choose to share them using Drive’s share model. If you assign these users edit permissions (Can Edit), then they will be able to change the Bulletin. If, however, you assign view permissions (Can View), they will be able to open the Bulletin but will not be able to edit it.

To facilitate this, you will need to sign in with your Google account before using the Bulletin app. You should sign in with the same account that you use to login to the Rise Vision platform. That’s it! And, because we have released the Bulletin app under an open source license, you can take it, change it, host it, whatever you like. As always, the content the Bulletin produces is non-proprietary HTML.

Bulletin Widget

Once you’ve created a Bulletin, you can use it in a Presentation by adding the Bulletin Widget to a Placeholder. From the Widget, you can select a Bulletin, create a new one, or edit the existing one. You can also specify a refresh interval to indicate how often you would like the Bulletin to update. More than likely, you will want to show a Bulletin at the same resolution at which it was created. For that reason, it’s important to ensure that the Placeholder into which you place a Bulletin has the same resolution as the Bulletin itself.

Now for the caveats. The Bulletin app is an experiment. We haven’t used Google Drive to publish HTML content before, but according to Google we won’t have any problems. But, like we said, we haven’t done this before, so we are going to release this as a beta until it has been completely proven.
