LEAPING FROG FILMS SHOWCASES ENVIRONMENTAL FILMS WITH JVC REFERENCE SERIES PROJECTOR

WAYNE, NJ (August 2, 2011)Shelly Solomon is a biologist, landscape architect, and water quality restoration specialist. With her husband, Kent Cornwell, she is also an environmental filmmaker. They established Leaping Frog Films in 2007, and are using a new JVC DLA-RS50U Reference Series 3D projector to showcase their productions to local audiences in the Seattle area.
JVC Reference Series projectors are built for customers with the most discerning color and calibration needs. Cornwell – a furniture designer by trade – developed a compact rolling cabinet that securely houses the projector, plus a Bose portable sound system and Blu-ray player for transport. As a result, they can take the projector on the road to present their projects, which are shot, edited, and authored in HD.
“The image quality is absolutely amazing,” she said. “It really shows off our films.”
Solomon has worked on numerous projects in her career as a biologist that resulted in positive environmental actions, but very few people actually knew about them. She and her husband established Leaping Frog Films to increase public awareness and encourage community involvement. “I wanted to showcase what other people were doing,” she added.
Leaping Frog Films has already produced many video projects for a number of nonprofit environmental groups, and its “Restoration Gone Wild” series of environmental stories focuses on wildlife habitat restoration and native species recovery programs. For her film work, Solomon received Sustainable Seattle’s 2010 “Leadership in Sustainability in the Natural World” award.
Admittedly, Solomon was skeptical about using projection equipment, because she was worried it would negatively impact the image quality. However, she said the DLA-RS50U, which is paired with a Screen Innovations Black Diamond HD projection screen, presents a better image than the high-resolution LCD screens she previously used to present her films.
Solomon received the projector in April and has already used it at one conference and an interview. She plans to showcase future films using the JVC projector at other events and make available the portable setup to local film festivals and environmental nonprofit fundraisers. The projector is 3D-capable, but so far Solomon has only used the projector for HD presentations.
The DLA-RS50U features three 1920x1080 D-ILA devices for a naturally rich, flicker-free picture with true blacks and extraordinary luminance detail. JVC’s wire-grid optical engine and D-ILA imagers deliver 70,000:1 native contrast ratio – without a dynamic iris to artificially enhance contrast specifications. The THX® Certified projector delivers 1,300 ANSI lumens and features JVC’s double-speed 120Hz Clear Motion Drive technology to reduce motion blur. For 3D presentations, the DLA-RS50U is compatible with JVC’s PK-AG1 Active Shutter 3D Glasses and PK-EM1 3D Signal Emitter (sold separately).
