Bretford, Inc., supplier of technology and media furniture that improves how people work and learn, is giving high school and college instructors a leg up on teaching with technology through the introduction of its new Multimedia Rack Mount Instructional Workstation. Part of the popular Bretford Basics™ Series, the UCS880 allows educators to easily set-up, house and move technology equipment within K-12 and higher education environments. Bretford will highlight the new instructor workstation in its booth (#574) during the FETC show, January 23-25 in Orlando, Florida.
“Typical educational instructor desks simply have pencil and file drawers and are not designed to support electronics equipment,” explained Dave Smith, product manager for Bretford, Inc. “Since the use of multimedia -- like laptops, projectors and DVD players -- has become an essential part of the teaching process, instructors struggle with how to accommodate this equipment in class and where to put it afterwards.” Smith continued, “The UCS880 provides the instructor with a workstation that houses everything in a single, secure location that is easy to access, move and store.” # # #

Universal Rack, Cord Management and More The UCS880 includes a universal 19-inch rack system so that any rack-mounted equipment, old or new, can be placed in the interior cabinet. The new workstation includes four large work surface grommet holes and a large cord management bin that runs the width of the top for easy integration of all electronics. Its rear panel ensures easy access to cables while a large cord bin keeps wires untangled and out of sight. In addition, the UCS880 features a steel cabinet with a locking door to secure expensive audiovisual equipment and eliminate theft and tampering.
The UCS880’s work surface can be adjusted at the time of assembly from 26 to 33 inches to meet all ADA requirements and fit the unique needs of an individual instructor. Its vinyl bumper runs along the finished edge of the desktop to minimize scratches and dents while being rolled through doorways and classrooms, and its four-inch swivel wheels (two locking) make it easier to move the technology from classroom to classroom.
Environmentally-Friendly and Customizable Always conscious of the environment, Bretford constructs the workstation’s steel base and accessories using 30 percent (on average) post-consumer recycled steel, along with an environmentally-friendly powder paint finish that reduces VOCs. The UCS880 is available in virtually thousands of laminate, paint and trim combinations to allow schools to match existing décor and create a custom appearance.
